Publishing in national journals offers an excellent opportunity to reach our local community while allowing students to gain hands-on experience in designing, writing, and submitting a research manuscript, as well as navigating the entire peer-review process.
As part of the elective course Spin Dynamics and NMR, three undergraduate students majoring in Engineering Physics developed a project on the design and computational simulation of a low-field NMR spectrometer based on a Halbach array. Simulations of the 90° excitation pulse and the generation of free induction decay (FID) signals yielded a peak pulse amplitude of 59 µT and an FID amplitude of 30000 a.u. Spectral analysis clearly revealed the characteristic doublet of the XA₁ spin system, centered at a Larmor frequency of 12,986 MHz, confirming the expected spectral resolution. In our knowledge, this is the first publication in a Costa Rican journal to address NMR as a methodological tool. One of the authors, Felipe Montero-Castillo, is a member of our Research Group.
The second paper, also published in a national journal, was prepared by two student members of our ACS Student Chapter, Cristian Nájera-Obando and Lucía Álvarez-Rojas, both majoring in Environmental Engineering. Founded in 2019, our Student Chapter has focused on four key areas: Community Service, Professional Development, Chapter Development, and Green Chemistry. This paper summarizes the activities carried out by our Student Chapter over the past seven years and outlines upcoming projects and initiatives.
Both journals pass through peer-reviewing and are indexed in Scopus. Investiga.TEC focuses on research projects with a direct impact on TEC and the surrounding community in Cartago, while Tecnología en Marcha publishes research across a broad range of scientific and technological disciplines.
